Energy flagging, he sits–
head in hands–knowing
he will have to table
plans for the capture
of what the New York Times
has labeled, The Monster.
The city has become
a battle zone. A serial
killer is counting
bodies along with
the police. He hates
to drop out now,
but the chief is under
constant pressure
from the mayor to add
more uniforms, ramp
up the chase. New
young cops with fresh
eyes may be able to
uncover the identity
of The Monster. Ideas
of retirement are starting
to sound sweeter.
