Once

Written for: Miz Quickly - Day 29

"Begin with the words, "Once upon a time"

Once upon a time
the rivers flowed with wine.
Marine life was happy then
until it all came to an end.
Human greed and disregard
poisoned the wine, made life hard.
Soon the wine became slick
with oil and tar-fish were sick.
Ocean life washed up on shore.
Wine dried up, life was no more.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

    Have you heard of 4ocean – http://www.4ocean.com?
I’ve got a couple of their bracelets (when you could get them in the card shops)…
Proceeds go to saving the oceans. One that I have was to specifically help the endangered Hawaiian monk seals…

Fresh water can be as intoxicating as fine wine…
