Rescue Me!

"A Nor’easter struck the Northeastern United States this weekend. In my corner of New York’s backyard, I lucked out with a down fall of 5 to 7 inches. Areas closer to the coast received more. Of course, that’s par for the course in January. What else can we expect from winter?"

"Brrrr! Let’s warm ourselves up by writing about winter! Write a haibun about this chill season."

A Winter of many years ago remains fresh in my mind.
The snow descended, one storm after another. We had
wooden steps to get down from our small deck to the
backyard.

Our Bassett Hound, Walter, developed a bad back.
Gone were the steps, replaced by a ramp–crudely
made, but workable. One morning, Walter went
plodding down his ramp, only to get stuck in deep
snow. His legs were quite short. We had to go
into the backyard to rescue him. He seemed embarrassed.
