Rooftop Passion

Written for: The Sunday Whirl, Wordle #539

Words: smells, shots, nailing, body, vibrating, facts,
hesitation, brushed, miss, rain, leak, cut

She still misses
smells of cooking
in her apartment
building–robust scents
of stuffed cabbage,
Italian sauce bubbling
in a tall pot, and fried
chicken aroma leaking
from under the door of
5G.

The two teens would cut
through the staircase
with its loose nails
sticking up, shoot up
onto the roof, and pray
it didn't rain. Without
hesitation, he would brush
up against her body, set
it to vibrating in a young
love shiver of icy heat. Oh,
those stolen moments. She
still misses those smells of
cooking, but the fact is,
she misses her first exploration
of forbidden love, more.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
