Ending An Unhealthy Friendship

"Write a poem about standing up to an enemy, or an
obstacle in your life."

She and I were
good friends. Confided
in, imbibed with, worked
together. I noticed that
our phone calls were
becoming a one-sided
weather report. Forecast
was forever unfavorable.
It was wearing; I hardly
managed to insert a sentence.
In time I realized that
she never asked about my
life. Made a decision
to get rid of the weight
of depression; I ended
the friendship.

We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
