Dog in Solidarity

Written for: Sunday Muse # 204 - Sunflower photos

A dog trots
down a dirt
path as sunflowers
part the way. He
is sorry for his
fellow compatriots
in the Ukraine. He
knows they are
afraid. This dog makes
a statement
with a sunflower looped
around his neck.
He hopes they know.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

This dog tells me that Marxist murderers on command of Stalin inflicted Holodomor on his forebears.

“He is sorry for his fellow compatriots in the Ukraine.”
This is an effective way of making a statement, from a dog’s point-of-view.

  6. Jim says:

I am glad so many dogs and other pets are evacuated. Terrible that one sick person can cause so much harm. He is on my same shelf that holds Nero and Hitler.

  7. Sherry Marr says:

I too am thinking of the terrified animals in Ukraine…..likely many starving as well. It is terrible.
