Spice of Life

Written for: April 2022 PAD Challenge - Day 10

"Write a taste poem."

An ethereal flavor, chocolate mousse,
melts on your tongue like silk. Careful, it's rich.
Cannot be mistaken for chocolate moose.

If it is tart for which you have an itch,
lemon meringue pie with sweetness and tang
will exquisitely satisfy that niche.

What are those spices in autumn that hang
heavy in air, a perfume to the nose?
Cinnamon, ginger, pumpkin pie-you rang?

Fortunately my tastebuds are diverse
from Italian to Indian to Thai–
crunchy, smooth, spicy like intriguing verse.

How appealing to taste food never tried.
How dismayed I'd be served chicken that's dry.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
