Sense of Dread

Written for: April 2022 PAD - Day 14

"Write a scary poem."

A sense of dread when I awake,
will today be filled once more with crime?
Will bombing continue with vengeful hate?
I feel like our world is out of time.

Will today be filled once more with crime
as ten-time offenders roam the streets?
I feel like our world is out of time.
Countries of people with nothing to eat.

As ten-time offenders roam the streets
with weapons easy to come by,
I feel like our world is out of time.
I fear we are being desensitized.

With weapons easy to come by,
and tornados leveling cities,
I fear we are being desensitized.
We no longer possess security.

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

  1. It is scary what the world is coming to but it is scary. I try using mediation and avoiding media to escape the chaos going on.
Saying this, doesn’t mean it stops but continues onward.
