Sounds of Morning

Two gray doves coo
on deck railing. 
White-tailed pigeon
struts across roof
of garage.  
A woofing dog
reminds his
humans that
it is time for
his walk.  On 
the block, doors
open and close.
Cars beep 
remotely.  I open
my eyes to morning.

    Cars are the worst. The neighbor’s cute young beagle’s bark wakes Mrs. Jim up but not me. Nor do the birds. Our singing birds are about to migrate south to Central America or farther for the winter.
