"Morning Has Broken" (posted by Linda Lee Lyberg)

Two gray doves coo
on deck railing.
White-tailed pigeon
struts across roof
of garage.
A woofing dog
reminds his
humans that
it is time for
his walk. On
the block, doors
open and close.
Cars beep
remotely. I open
my eyes to morning.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

  1. Jim says:

Cars are the worst. The neighbor’s cute young beagle’s bark wakes Mrs. Jim up but not me. Nor do the birds. Our singing birds are about to migrate south to Central America or farther for the winter.

  2. Mornings are my favorite time of day and you’ve captured the essence of them so well.

  3. Sara – this is like watching the opening scene of a movie! I could imagine all of it so clearly!
