Debunk the Myth of Martyr

Written for:  November 2022 PAD Chapbook Challenge

"For today's prompt, write a misguided poem. The poem could be about a misguided person. Or it could be narrated by a misguided person. Or reveal a bad idea. Or well, whichever misguided direction you want to take it."


Thought I could handle it all;
friends said, you're headed for a fall.
There was not enough Tylenol,
nor wine, or other alcohol
for coping with his countless close calls.

As a Vietnam Vet, you would think
that VA would provide help in a blink
of an eye.  Lie.  Apathy was shocking.
Now that he's safe, I am decompressing.
Don't wait, ask for help before your heart sinks.
