Views on the News

Written for: November 2022 PAD Chapbook Challenge - Day 6

"For today's prompt, write a news poem. Your poem could be about a story you find in the news today (either from a newspaper, TV report, or online news source). Or it could be about a news story from the past. Of course, you can also make up your own news (some people like to do that anyway, right?)."

No
cover
of darkness
needed for crimes
to occur. Daylight
brings on vicious subway
attacks, stabbings, shootings, rapes.
No place to go for mentally
ill. Felons with rap sheets pages long.
I watch limited news, and am grateful

that he can no longer focus on news,
be incensed reading it, a past need.
I am thankful he is retired
from judicial systems as
Supreme Court Officer.
He carried a gun,
handled gangs, and
wise guys. Now
he is
safe.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
