Roped In Again

Written for: November 2022 PAD Chapbook Challenge - Day 26

"For today's prompt, write a second thought poem. Maybe you could rethink a poem from earlier in the month. Or give a second thought to a position you've taken in the past. Or rethink a conversation earlier this week."

Should have bitten my tongue
despite ire.
Less information is wiser.
My words were tossed and flung–
fuel to fire.
He could not wait to apprise her

with words out of context.
First instinct
was to not answer certain calls,
try to hold myself in check,
destroy link
to those who will topple my wall,

and sap strength I have built
for coping
with my world of loss and despair.
Let them deal with their guilt
in knowing
they did not help, were never there.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
