Coffee Cools Down

Written for: Poetics Aside, Prompt #633

"For this week's prompt, write a warm up poem. The poem could be about doing a warm up for an athletic activity or live performance. Or it could be about warming up a room with a fire; maybe warming up a relationship. Take it as you will, but then, write your poem!"

Sipping coffee,
simultaneously reading
poems by whichever poet
I have chosen for
the week. I sip,
I read, as coffee
cools down to
unacceptable. Because
I never have breakfast
too soon after waking,
it becomes a necessity
to reheat my coffee
in the microwave for
thirty-two seconds.
Perfect!

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
