The World in Tangles

Written for: Friday Writings #65

I'd like you to shape your words around the phrase, "it's been a long time coming."

How long did it take
and whose fault is it?
Human kindness is on
hold, greed and selfishness
have evolved. We had
a pandemic that changed
lives, and lost many.
We did not have strong
leadership; we had
a tearing apart
like rent fabrics.
How long will it take
for people to care
about each other?
I do not see any
changes in the wind.

About purplepeninportland

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.

Yes, the world’s problems are not going to go away any time soon. Wars, politics, poverty, disease, misinformation. We can only hope, that common sense prevails.

Nor do I, Sara …. the surfacing of hate, greed, racism, violence is unsettling to say the least. It is terrifying.

No I think it is going to get worse before it gets better. When we had the earthquake people suddenly cared for each other again. A shame that times have to be bad for people to support each other.

  4. I think most still do — but those in positions of power seem otherwise motivated. And per haps we are all more scared and therefore more selfish. 😦

Yes you are right. Sorry to be cynical but it is going to get worse. I sincerely hope I am wrong.

  7. Common sense and compassion – both are lost in a race for identity, power and wealth in an upside down world. I don’t see it getting better – not now!!!
