Raw Scars

Written for: The Sunday Whirl, Wordle #598

Words: scar, raw, secrets, truth, scandals, whispers,
feather, layers, rushes, bone-weary, spiral, healing

Bone-weary, scars still raw,
she was recuperating slowly
whispered her mother
to her best friend. You
know you cannot rush
healing even in youth.
After spiraling
downward like a spinning
top, recovery goes through
a series of layers–both physical
and mental. She is not
ready to face the truth
of those scandals,
secrets, and lies
that float about her
like black feathers.
All we can hope for
is justice.

I am a freelance poet, born and bred in Brooklyn, New York. I live with my husband, John, and two charming rescue dogs–Marion Miller and Murphy. We spent eight lovely years in Portland, OR, but are now back in New York. My goal is to create and share poetry with others who write, or simply enjoy reading poetry. I hope to touch a nerve in you, and feel your sparks as well.
